” É na escola que a dislexia, de fato, aparece. Há disléxicos que revelam suas dificuldades em outros ambientes e
situações, mas nenhum deles se compara à escola, local onde a leitura e a escrita são permanentemente utilizadas e,
sobretudo, valorizadas.
Sempre houve disléxicos nas escolas. Entretanto, a escola que conhecemos certamente não foi feita para o disléxico.
Objetivos, conteúdos, metodologias, organização, funcionamento e avaliação nada têm a ver com ele. Não é por acaso que

UFLA cria aplicativo para auxílio a pessoas com problemas de visão, como a Dislexia

Em Dezembro de 2014 o Jornal Bom Dia Minas, da Rede Globo, exibiu uma matéria sobre o aplicativo Web Help Dyslexia desenvolvido por estudantes e professores da Universidade Federal de Lavras (UFLA) para auxílio a indivíduos com problemas visuais, como a Dislexia.

 

O aplicativo inclui ferramentas capazes de formatar páginas da web, modificando tamanho, tipo e cor de letras, além do fundo da dor de tela, dentre outros parâmetros, como seleção de visualização uma linha do texto por vez.

Quem pode se beneficiar com uso de Overlays e Filtros Espectrais?

A Síndrome de Irlen pode afetar qualquer indivíduo, inclusive os bons leitores, porém a severidade dos sintomas e suas manifestações podem variar de acordo com vários fatores, como por exemplo, a presença de alguma comorbidade, que normalmente são relacionados com a sensibilidade à luz e má percepção espacial.

A abordagem através da metodologia Irlen vem sendo usada e referendada há mais de 30 anos em milhares de escolas pelo mundo; seja pela aplicação de overlays ou dos filtros.

Portanto, Quem pode ser beneficiado com a Metodologia Irlen?

  1. 12 a14% dos bons alunos, com boa capacidade de leitura, que:
    • Precisam de mais tempo para concluir dever de casa do que a maioria dos bons alunos;
    • Queixam de dores de cabeça, tensão ou cansaço na leitura ou na escola;
    • Evitam a leitura ou relatam não ter prazer nesta atividade;
    • Apresentam resultados aquém do esperado em testes/provas cronometrados ou padronizados;
    • Tem preferência por ler resumo em vez de todo o capítulo freqüentemente;
    • Acham mais fácil aprender ouvindo do que com a leitura;
    • São .considerados preguiçosos ou desmotivados.
  1. 46% dos indivíduos que apresentem problemas de leitura, Dislexia ou outras Dificuldades de Aprendizagem e que demonstrem:
    • A leitura como um processo difícil, doloroso, árduo e/ou exaustivo;
    • Problemas com o fluxo, fluência e compreensão do que lê;

 
A:Problemas de leitura ligados à Síndrome de Irlen usualmente são resultantes da incapacidade do cérebro em compreender com precisão e processar a informação visual, não sendo justificados somente por déficits na fonética ou por um vocabulário fraco. Esses problemas ocorrem mais frequentemente em condições de iluminação  fluorescente e em uma leitura com contraste preto/branco. Pela presença de distorções a leitura pode ser lenta e ineficiente levando o indivíduo a saltar  palavras ou linhas, realizar releituras, e/ou ter uma má compreensão.

É  válido lembrar que a Síndrome de Irlen pode não ser a única razão para dificuldades de leitura, havendo vários outros fatores complicadores deste processo.

  1. Indivíduos com Transtorno do Déficit de Atenção (TDA) ou Transtorno do Déficit de Atenção/ Hiperatividade (TDAH), que apresentem as seguintes características:
  • Problemas de concentração durante a leitura ou a escrita;
  •  Fácil distração durante a leitura ou a escrita;
  • Distração quando sob luzes fluorescentes;
  • Devaneios em sala de aula;
  • Problemas de permanecer na mesma tarefa por um período maior;

Muitos indivíduos, principalmente crianças e adolescente desatentos, ansiosos, agitados e que demonstram desmotivação são tidos erroneamente como TDA/TDAH, quando na verdade são portadores apenas de Síndrome de Irlen. Em outros casos, os indivíduos apresentam comorbidade entre Síndrome de Irlen e TDAH e o tratamento consiste no uso dos Filtros Irlen, além de medicação, porém ao utilizar os filtros, com a melhora da sintomatologia, em muitos casos há redução da necessidade de medicação para manter-se concentrados e atentos.

 

Quer saber mitos e fatos a esse respeito?

Mito: Inquietação e impulsividade sempre indicam a necessidade de medicação.

Fato: Outros problemas também podem causar esses mesmos comportamentos incluindo as sensibilidades a alimentos, alergias, dificuldades de aprendizagem, problemas de leitura, e Síndrome de Irlen.

 

Mito: Dificuldade de concentração e em permanecer na mesma tarefa indica a necessidade de medicação.

Fato: Dificuldades com leitura e aprendizagem relacionados à Síndrome de Irlen também podem causar esses mesmos comportamentos. Se a tarefa provoca sintomas físicos, como dores de cabeça, sonolência ou faz os olhos arderem, a medicação não pode ser a resposta ou ser apenas parte da resposta. O Método Irlen pode fazer com que a leitura e outras tarefas acadêmicas sejam menos frustrantes e mais confortáveis. Não negligencie a investigação de outras causas para os problemas acadêmicos.

  1. Indivíduos que apresentam: dores de cabeça, enxaqueca, dores de estômago, tonturas e outros sintomas físicos, como:
    • Desconforto na luz solar;
    • Desconforto em luzes brilhantes ou luzes fluorescentes;
    • Preferência por ambientes com pouca iluminação, penumbra;
    • Incômodo pelos faróis à noite;
    • Desconforto ao usar o computador;
    • Estresse ou tensão com a leitura sustentada;
    • Estresse ou tensão em atividades visualmente intensas;
    • Dificuldade ao olhar listras, quadriculados, dentre outras estampas;
    • Percepção de cores mais brilhantes e incômodas do que outras;
    • Neve, chuva e dias nebulosos irritam os olhos.

Se você acha que suas dores de cabeça e enxaquecas são causadas pelo estresse, o Método Irlen pode ser capaz de te ajudar, já que ele elimina fatores ambientais que podem desencadear esse estresse, além de auxiliar na hipersensibilidade a luz, outro causador da sintomatologia em questão.Porém dores de cabeça podem indicar doenças mais graves como: aneurisma, tumor cerebral, derrame, meningite, encefalite, ou pressão arterial elevada. Se você tiver qualquer dúvida sobre a causa de suas dores de cabeça ou enxaquecas, contacte o seu médico para descartar essas possíveis causas.

 

Outras causas de dores de cabeça:

  • Sensibilidade a alimentos: Uma variedade de diferentes alimentos podem provocar dores de cabeça para aqueles que são sensíveis a elas. Alguns dos alimentos mais comumente relatados são: açúcar, chocolate, queijo, vinho tinto, fermento, produtos lácteos, trigo, conservantes, aditivos e corantes alimentares.
  • AlergiasAlergias: Odores fortes como perfumes, sabonetes, colônias, tintas e produtos de limpeza podem provocar dores de cabeça em algumas pessoas.
  • Ruídos: Ruídos altos e persistentes podem provocar dores de cabeça. Besides avoiding noisy situations, use soft ear plugs to help muffle the offending sounds. Além de evitar situações ruidosas, utilize tampões para os ouvidos afim de abafar os sons.
  • Comorbidades: sinusite e problemas de estômago também podem causar dores de cabeça.

 

  1. Indivíduos com hipersensibilidade à luz, que:
    • Sentem-se incomodados por reflexos, luzes fluorescentes, luzes brilhantes, luz solar e luzes à noite;
    • Apresentem sintomas, tais como:
      • Cansaço;
      • Sonolência;
      • Tontura;
      • Ansiedade;
      • Irritação;
      • Dores de cabeça;
      • Alterações de humor;
      • Inquietação;
      • Dificuldade em permanecer focado, especialmente com luzes brilhantes ou fluorescentes.

 

  1. pós traumatismos crânio-encefálicos 70-80% com as seguintes características:
  • Problemas de leitura pós-trauma;
  • Dificuldade em ler durante outra atividade;
  • Surgimento de sensibilidade à luz – Estar sob iluminação brilhante ou fluorescente, e dirigir à noite torna-se desconfortável e/ou estressante;
  • Presença de: dores de cabeça; náuseas; tonturas; ansiedade; irritabilidade ou dores de estômago.  A gravidade desses sintomas físicos, muitas vezes é aumentada pela luz solar, iluminação brilhante, leitura e outras atividades visualmente intensas;
  • Dificuldade em atividades que exigem a capacidade de julgar profundidade ou relações espaciais;
  • General sense of being tired and fatigued. Sensação de estar cansado e desgastado quase todo o tempo;
  • Problemas neurológicos induzidos pela luz, como: convulsões, tremores, ou outros problemas semelhantes.

Para muitos, um traumatismo crânio-encefálico (TCE) pode resultar danos ao cérebro, tornam-do os indivíduos vulneráveis a fatores estressantes externos como a sensibilidade à luz, brilho, contraste, cores e geram uma incapacidade de manter a atenção e concentração, que por conseqüência acaba por afetar diversas áreas cerebrais, tais como: área física, área cognitiva e área emocional. A correta filtragem dos comprimentos de onda da luz geradores desse estresse (hipersensibilidade), através da Metodologia Irlen permite que o cérebro em um padrão normal. Com o retorno do bom funcionamento cerebral, os relatos:

  • Maior desenvoltura no discurso;
  • Melhora da coordenação motora;
  • Redução dos tremores corporais;
  • Redução ou extinção das dores de cabeça;
  • Melhora da atividade de apreensão;
  •  Melhora da capacidade de comunicação;
  • Redução significativa da ansiedade e irritabilidade.

A maioria das mudanças ocorre dentro de um curto período de tempo, porém os relatos indicam uma melhora contínua após os ganhos iniciais.

  1. Outros exemplos de condições cujos sintomas incluem sensibilidade à luz, dificuldades e sobrecarga sensorial e que tem se beneficiado pelo Método Irlen são:
  • Baixa Visão;
  • Epilepsia induzida pela luz;
  • Depressão;
  • Ansiedade;
  • Pós-tumorectomia;
  • Doenças auto-imunes;
  • Esclerose Múltipla;
  • Transtorno Bipolar;
  • Paralisia Cerebral;
  • Fibromialgia;
  • Síndrome de Tourette, dentre outras.

É possível que muitos portadores de Síndrome de Irlen estejam sendo considerados e tratados como tendo outras patologias, como comumente ocorre com a Dislexia ou Transtorno do Déficit de Atenção/Hiperatividade (TDAH) pela falta de conhecimento sobre os efeitos da hipersensibilidade à luz no processamento e qualidade da informação visual e porque tais patologias possuem características em comum. É lamentável que isto ocorra porque muitos dos sintomas têm abordagem direta, objetiva e não invasiva, sendo que nas formas puras, não requerem uso de medicamentos, mas sim apenas ajustes ambientais.

É importante ressaltar que muitos pacientes que apresentam outras patologias associadas com a SI, mesmo com a identificação e o tratamento desta e conseqüente eliminação dos sintomas, pode precisar de medicação e/ou apoio especializado a respeito dessas comorbidades.
