Saiba como foram o 31º e o 32º Cursos DARV

Durante os dias 24 a 26 de Maio de 2018 promovemos a 31ª edição do Curso DARV. Foram 79 profissionais provenientes de todo o Brasil e de formações acadêmicas variadas: professores, ortoptistas, neuropsicólogos, fonoaudiólogos, oftalmologistas, etc.

No segundo semestre de 2018, nos dias 25 a 27 de Outubro foi a vez de recebermos a 32ª turma de profissionais a ser capacitada no Curso DARV. Os 80 profissionais de 18 Estados brasileiros se habilitaram como Screeners da Síndrome de Irlen.

Durante os dias 25 a 28 de Outubro de 2017 promovemos a 29ª edição do Curso DARV. Foram mais de 110 profissionais provenientes de todo o Brasil e de formações acadêmicas variadas: professores, pediatras, neuropsicólogos, fonoaudiólogos, oftalmologistas, fonoaudiólogos, etc.

Na semana subsequente, nos dias 01 a 04 de Novembro foi a vez de recebermos a 30ª turma de profissionais a ser capacitada no Curso DARV. Mais de 90 profissionais de 18 Estados brasileiros se habilitaram como Screeners da Síndrome de Irlen.

Audiência Pública sobre a Síndrome de Irlen

No dia 13/06, acontecerá a Audiência Pública Sobre Síndrome de Irlen, na Câmara dos Deputados em Brasília, onde autoridades debaterão sobre o diagnóstico e tratamento do distúrbio com a participação da Dra. Márcia Guimarães.

Projeto treina professores de BH a identificar síndrome que dificulta leitura

Síndrome de Irlen, relacionada à visão muitas vezes é confundida com Dislexia ou Déficit de Atenção.

Ele é muitas vezes tido como bagunceiro, desinteressado ou, simplesmente, um caso inexplicável. Enquanto a aula segue, deixa cair o lápis, se remexe na cadeira, fica inquieto e não presta atenção. Depois de alguns minutos diante de um livro, pede para ir ao banheiro ou beber água. Alguns pais chegam a levar os filhos com esse tipo de comportamento a neurologistas e recebem diagnósticos de dislexia ou de transtorno de déficit de atenção com hiperatividade (TDAH), começando tratamentos com remédios fortes. Mas, atenção. Se esse é o caso de seu filho ou aluno, ele pode, na verdade, fazer parte de um contingente da população que tem um distúrbio de aprendizagem relacionado à visão: síndrome de Irlen. Para esses meninos e meninas, ler não é algo tão normal. Ao contrário, torna suas histórias de vida algo dolorosas emocional e fisicamente. Além de ficar com a autoestima em baixa pela dificuldade, há um desconforto físico associado à leitura. Projeto feito em Belo Horizonte nas escolas públicas de ensino fundamental tem treinado justamente quem está no comando das salas de aula para identificar os portadores do problema e ajudá-los, com uma solução bem simples, a literalmente mudar de vida.

A síndrome é um distúrbio do sistema visual que tem como sintomas mais comuns a dificuldade de adaptação à luz, desorganização espacial (noção de direita, esquerda, em cima e embaixo) e desconforto com o movimento e com figuras complexas e de alto contraste. Tudo isso impacta quem sofre com ela, principalmente por afetar a coordenação da movimentação ocular, e, consequentemente, prejudicar a leitura, como se textos e palavras estivessem tremendo. Assim como a dislexia, se manifesta com intensidade variável, mas é um problema oftalmológico demonstrado clinicamente e que tem tratamento. Estudos da Universidade de Harvard mostram que 15% da população mundial sofre do problema.

Chefe do Departamento de Neurovisão do Hospital de Olhos Dr. Ricardo Guimarães, a professora-doutora em distúrbios de aprendizagem relacionados à visão Márcia Guimarães diz que o comportamento de uma criança com a síndrome tem peculiaridades e, por isso, ninguém melhor que a professora em sala de aula para identificar. “Na 1ª e 2ª séries (ensino fundamental), ela tem à frente 30 ou 45 alunos que estão no mesmo nível de construção para serem alfabetizados. É uma professora que sabe a habilidade oral, o que a criança compreende, que conhece a linguagem que ela usa”, afirma. “O menino habitualmente muito esperto na parte oral, que participa da aula e, na hora da leitura, da cópia no quadro, do ditado não consegue acompanhar os colegas, deve ser olhado com atenção. Ele começa bem na segunda ou na terça-feira, depois já está mais apático, mais lento. No terceiro horário está cansado, começa a prova bem e, no meio, comete erros inexplicáveis pela habilidade que ele teve na parte inicial da avaliação, porque está cansado”, relata.

Segundo Márcia, o cansaço neurovisual dificulta a conexão de ideias e o cuidado para elaborar raciocínio ou fazer uma conta. Ela explica que a síndrome sempre existiu, mas que agora tem se manifestado cada vez mais por causa de um ponto-chave da vida moderna: o tipo de luz. As telas de tablets, computadores, televisões de LED têm fundo de luz com uma frequência temporal. Ela explica que as pessoas que têm Irlen são mais aguçadas que a média e percebem a frequência temporal de maneira mais clara que as demais. “Lâmpadas fluorescentes são fabricadas a 60 hertz, ou seja, piscam 60 vezes por segundo. Estudos populacionais mostram que 85% da população, se estiver a 60 hertz, tem uma fusão de faixa e vê aquilo como se fosse uma emissão continuada”, explica. “Já quem tem distúrbios neurovisuais percebe os pulsos como se fosse uma lâmpada fluorescente acesa querendo queimar, piscando. É assim que ele vê.”

Por isso, é preciso fazer o teste da visão em funcionamento, ao contrário do exame oftalmológico clássico. A avaliação deve excluir a instabilidade da movimentação ocular. A médica relata que quando lemos, normalmente movimentamos os olhos de três a quatro vezes por segundo. Logo, para saber se a pessoa lê ou não, não se pode apenas avaliar se ela enxerga ou não a letra pequena, mas se enxerga e se movimenta bem os olhos da esquerda para a direita numa velocidade rápida e constante e com os dois olhos em sincronia.

TESTE Para sanar esses distúrbios e ajudar a quem precisa, surgiu nas escolas públicas de ensino fundamental mineiras o projeto Bom começo, que visa fazer o rastreamento da saúde visual. A iniciativa é da Fundação Hospital de Olhos, braço social do Hospital de Olhos Dr. Ricardo Guimarães, em parceria com a Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG). Ele busca justamente o resgate de crianças subescolarizadas. As prefeituras selecionam professores para fazer o curso e aprender a caracterização de um distúrbio de aprendizagem relacionado à visão.

As educadoras recebem um kit que inclui transparências especiais de diversas cores (overlays), para serem colocadas no papel ou na tela do computador, possibilitando à própria educadora fazer o teste de leitura com a criança. Depois de identificado problema, o aluno passa a usar as transparências, compradas pela própria caixa escolar das instituições de ensino a preço acessível, ou filtros nas lentes dos óculos.

“Só quando a gente sofre na pele sabe que a criança não está mentindo e não está com preguiça”. A frase é da professora Maria Célia dos Santos Peixoto, de 55 anos, que descobriu também ter síndrome de Irlen ao fazer o curso de capacitação dado a professores de escola pública pela Fundação Hospital de Olhos. Enquanto o passo a passo era ensinado, ela percebia algo muito familiar. A síndrome é uma alteração do processamento visual causada por um desequilíbrio da capacidade de adaptação à luz que produz alterações no córtex visual e déficit na leitura. “Ela não impede a pessoa de aprender, mas fica mais desgastante. Foi uma libertação”, conta.

Maria Célia relata que a mudança de luminosidade nos últimos tempos piorou a situação. Agora que usa óculos com filtros, a vida é outra.  A professora se aposentou no fim do ano, mas ainda continua a fazer testes nas escolas e tem uma fila de crianças esperando. Coordenadora pedagógica, ela avaliou não apenas as crianças em fase de alfabetização, mas também adolescentes e até os alunos da Educação de Jovens e Adultos (EJA) da Escola Municipal Francisca Alves, no Bairro Santa Terezinha, na Pampulha, onde atuava, e em outras instituições da redondeza. “Eu queria aprender bem o processo e mais de 90% das crianças nos mais de 40 testes que fiz foram detectadas com Irlen e encaminhadas para o Hospital de Olhos Dr. Ricardo Guimarães para avaliação”, diz. Ela afirma que com o uso da transparência overlay houve melhora significativa.
